Benefits of sulfur when used for treating problem skin and acne

The ingredient sulfur has been used to treat problem skins and acne for decades and still remains a valuable constituent of problem skin care ingredients.

Even from the time of Hippocrates - the father of modern medicine - sulfur preparations have been used to treat skin conditions.

Sulfur is an effective treatment of inflammatory pimples and acne lesions ^{REF 64} and is also used for seborrheic dermatitis.

It acts as a keratolytic and also has germicidal action. ^{REF 65}  

Although it is extremely effective, it takes some time to be effective - so although excellent results are achieved, these normally do not happen overnight.

This ingredient must not be confused with sulfa - which is a type of antibiotic.

Classification of sulfur as a cosmetic ingredient

It is a naturally occurring element and is also used in OTC drug products and is classified as an element as well as an inorganic. It is used as an anti-acne agent, as well as miscellaneous skin-conditioning agent.
